Overview

The Regents Earth Science course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the Earth’s systems, including geology, meteorology, astronomy, and environmental science. The curriculum emphasizes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and the application of scientific principles to real-world scenarios.

Additional Support Assistance

Every Monday after school there is dedicated time for students seeking help with course material. During this weekly, optional, meeting, students have opportunity to clarify concepts receive personalized guidance and address any difficulties they may have encountered in their studies. This support aims to enhance understanding, improve performance, and foster academic confidence. Students are encouraged to utilize this resource regularly to maximize their learning experience.

Students with a grade point average below a C- will be mandated to attend at least two extra help sessions per month.

In May and June, the weeks leading up to the Regents Exam will have Extra Help on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Evaluation Components

  • Homework and Quizzes: Regular assignments and quizzes will account for a portion of the final grade, encouraging ongoing engagement with the material.
  • Laboratory Reports: Practical laboratory work will be assessed based on accuracy, completeness, and scientific reasoning.
  • Unit Tests: Periodic tests covering key topics will evaluate students’ comprehension and retention of concepts.
  • Participation: Active participation in labs, class discussions, activities, and group work will contribute to overall performance.
  • Final Regents Examination: A comprehensive exam administered at the end of the course will serve as a significant component of the final grade.

Policies on Late Work and Make-up Assignments

Late submissions will result in reduced scores unless prior arrangements are made. Students are encouraged to communicate promptly regarding absences or extenuating circumstances to facilitate make-up work.
